head scarves, covered from head to toe were judged on their looks, how well they recited verses from the Holy Koran, they were also judged on their views on Islam in the modern world,
This pageant was actually staged as a retort to the Miss World pageant holding in the same country. The organizers said they wanted to create an awareness
within the muslim female community that there is a better form of beauty than the one being portrayed
by the Miss World.
Eka Shanti, who founded the pageant three years ago after losing her job as a TV news anchor for refusing to remove her headscarf, bills the contest as "Islam's answer to Miss World".
